Understanding Hearing Loss

Hearing is considered by many to be our most vital sense. It enables you to process everyday sounds so you can communicate clearly and interact safely in your daily environment. You depend on your hearing 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As hearing diminishes, everyday sounds you once took for granted are no longer as clear. Maybe you cope by turning up the TV, asking others to repeat themselves, or pretending it's not a problem.

But what happens when your inability to hear everyday sounds causes not only embarrassment, but also has more serious consequences? Click here for more information.

Common misconceptions of hearing loss

“A hearing aid won't help me” or “I'm too old for a hearing aid.”
Some people choose to ignore their loss because they believe hearing aids can’t help their specific type of loss. Or they incorrectly believe they are too old to benefit from amplification. In fact, 95 percent of all losses can be successfully treated. And no person is ever too old to benefit from the improved communication that hearing aids can provide.

“My hearing loss isn't that bad” or “A hearing aid will make me look old.”
Some people feel their hearing loss just isn't “bad enough” to warrant treatment. Or they believe that seeking treatment would carry the stigma of advancing age. Others are simply embarrassed at the idea of wearing a hearing aid. An important thought to keep in mind: a hearing loss is more noticeable than today's discrete, digital hearing aids.

Hearing Aid Choices

DIGITAL
Digital hearing instruments represent the most advanced technology available today. These instruments actually contain a computer chip that is programmed by a computer. This offers the best way currently available to match a particular hearing loss with the most prescriptive amplification needed.

Click on the heading above for more information.

PROGRAMMABLE

Programmable hearing instruments represent a more advanced technology than conventional. These instruments are programmed by a computer, allowing a better way to accommodate a given patient's amplification needs.

Click on the heading above for more information.

CONVENTIONAL

Hearing aids, which use conventional electronics, have been the mainstay of the hearing aid industry for 40 years. Conventional hearing aid electronics use basic analog technology to provide quality, amplification to patients with a wide range of hearing losses.

 Hearing Aid Styles

CIC (Completely in the canal) the smallest of all hearing instruments, hide more completely in the ear canal and are virtually invisible when worn.

ITC (In the canal) the most popular hearing instrument, still small and easy to handle and offers additional control functions.

ITE (In the ear) features the widest selection of user controlled functions and comfort features.

BTE (Behind the ear) fit neatly behind the ear and can be connected to external sound sources such as TVs or listening systems.

Audibel

Audibel is the hearing aid provider for many U.S. Presidents, Congressmen and well-known personalities.

A New Style has just been added so call us for details or check back later on our website!
